"Request Match Analysis"

"Request Match Analysis"

Question:
I received an MVR with a message similar to this:

"Request match analysis: dl=Y, ln=Y, fn=N, dob=?"

The MVR will also contain the one or both of these messages:

Personal Information Supplied from Request
                           -
or   -
Personal Information Restricted by Provider

What does this mean?

Answer:
The source from which iiX obtained the MVR information has, in this case, place restrictions on the dissemination of the driver's personal information - i.e. Name, DL#, DOB, and Address.  Therefore, the Name, DL#, SSN, and other personal information on the report were taken from the request that you sent to iiX. They are not necessarily the Name, DL#, SSN, or DOB that was returned by the state.

On any MVR that carries this message, iiX will perform a Request Match Analysis and indicate (in the Miscellaneous and State Specific section of the MVR) whether the First Name (FN), Last Name (LN), Drivers License # (DL), and Date of Birth (DOB) that you submitted matched the information provided by the state. The match analysis values are:  Y = an exact match,  N = not an exact match, and ? = item could not be matched because it was not submitted on your request.

For example: Request match analysis: dl=Y, ln=Y, fn=N, dob=?  Here the Driver's License Number submitted was an exact match with the DL# reported by the state.  The Last Name (LN) submitted on the request was also an exact match with the Last Name returned by the state. The First Name that you submitted was not an exact match with the First Name that was reported by the state. The DOB was not submitted as part of the request and could not be compared with the DOB returned by the state.

Please be aware of the following:

  • The match of information must be exact. Therefore, if you request a First Name using Jim and the state reports James, the match analysis for the first name will be N.  Any discrepancy in the spelling of the name will result in an N value.
  • If the MVR comes back as a "No-Hit" or "Driver Not Found" the values may be "Y".  In many cases, if a state is unable to match your request to a driver, they will send back an error report that says the driver was not found or that the request did not match any driver records.  When they do this, they may send us back the same information that we sent them (for the name, license, and DOB). This will cause the match analysis to show as Y.even though they did not actually find a record for the requested driver. Be sure to always check that there are no messages on the MVR that indicate that the driver could not be found.
