"Spool32 Error" When Attempting to Print
 

Problem:
The following error message is displayed while attempting to print under Windows 95/98:

"Spool32 Error"

Solution:

Microsoft offers the following troubleshooting for this error:

  • Close all open applications and try again.
  • Close all open applications and restart Windows 95/98 and then try again.
  • Change the printer's Port Settings.
    • Click on Start
    • Choose Settings
    • Choose Printers
    • Right click the proper printer icon and then select Properties
    • Choose the Details tab.
    • Click on Port Settings
      • Remove the check from Spool MS-DOS Jobs box
      • Remove the check from Check Port State box
    • Save the settings, restart Windows, and try again.
  • Change the Spool Settings
    • Click on Start
    • Choose Settings
    • Choose Printers
    • Right click the proper printer icon and then select Properties
    • Choose the Details tab.
    • Click on Spool Settings
      • Click the radio button for Print Directly to the Printer
    • Save the settings, restart Windows, and try again.
  • Other reasons for the problem could be: a bad printer driver, a TSR program, or a virus program.
    • If this is a local printer, start Windows in Safe Mode and try printing again.
