An Express for Windows administrator wants to configure the Express communications module for use with a Windows-based communications server or modem pool.

Solution:

These suggestions may be applied for most any communications server that is Windows® based and does not require our application (Express) to be NASI™ or NCSI® compatible.  All settings options described below are accessed by selecting the menu option Communications, and then selecting Settings.

  • Use what ever modem profile fits the modem. You might start with either the "U S Robotics® V.32bis using INT14" or the "Default High Speed using INT14".  Other modem profiles may be used however.

  • On the Port Setup tab, set the Protocol to Bios/INT14 or Xbios/INT14.   If unable to make connection with the modem pool, change to Polled or Interrupt and try again.

  • On the Port Setup tab, set the Com Port for whatever port is being redirected on the client workstation.  This will usually (but not always be) Com 3 or Com 4.

  • Set the Flow Control = NONE.  (Flow Control is normally handled by the communications server).

  • Set the DTE Rate = FIXED

  • On the Options tab, set Ignore CD = YES

  • On the Port Setup tab, set the Baud Rate = 19200 ( or whatever works best )

  • Make sure communications are not running in a blue DOS box.  If communications is opening a DOS box to run, edit the AMSEXPW.INI file (located in the Windows directory) and change the CommModule to be MTW.EXE, not MT.EXE.
