AMSEXPW Caused a General Protection Fault in RDCWIN.DLL
 

Problem:

The following error message is displayed while attempting to communicate using Express for Windows:

AMSEXPW Caused a General Protection Fault in RDCWIN.DLL

Solution 1:

Verify the date stamp on the RDCWIN.DLL file in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. For versions 3.00 or later it should be 2-11-98.  For versions prior to 3.00, the date should be 4/25/95.

If any other dates are found, delete or rename the file and rerun Express for Windows SETUP.
 

Solution 2:

Check for multiple copies of the RDCWIN.DLL file. Use the command :

  • DIR RDCWIN.DLL  /S

at the root of the drive from which Windows is launched, - usually C:

Rename (or delete) any copies found in any directory other than the Windows system directory. (Usually C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM or C:\WINNT\SYSTEM.
 

Solution 3:

Check the system date by changing to a DOS prompt and typing DATE. The current date should display. Make sure it is correct and does not display a year such as 2039 or later..
 

Solution 4:

The RDCWIN.DLL file may be corrupt.

Rename (or delete) the existing copy from the Windows System directory and rerun the Express for Windows SETUP.
