AMSEXPW.EXE Caused a General Protection Fault in CSTEXT.VBX
 

Problem:

The following error message is displayed while entering reports in Express for Windows™:

AMSEXPW.EXE Caused a General Protection Fault in CSTEXT.VBX

Solution 1:

Verify the date and time stamp on the CSTEXT.VBX file in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. It should be at least 6/15/95.
 

Solution 2:

Check for multiple copies of the CSTEXT.VBX file. Use the command :

  • DIR CSTEXT.VBX /S

at the root of the drive from which Windows® is launched, - usually C:

or

Search for the file using the Find option in Windows Explorer.

Rename any copies that are found in any directory other than the Windows System directory (usually C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM)
 

Solution 3:

Check the system date by changing to a DOS prompt and typing DATE. The current date should display. Make sure it is correct.
 

Solution 4:

The CSTEXT.VBX file may be corrupt. Try renaming the existing copy and reinstalling Express.
 

Solution 5:

If all else fails, see if they have a copy of this file on another machine where Express is running successfully. Copy the file to a diskette and recopy to the affected machine.
