Incorrect or Unreadable Font or Letter Size or Problems with Multiple Page Reports

Incorrect or Unreadable Font or Letter Size or Problems with Multiple Page Reports

Problem:

Express for Windows™ reports are printing in some unusual font, letter size, or layout.  The problem may only affect only the 2nd, 3rd, etc., pages of a multiple page report.

Solution:

The control of Fonts, Type Size, Layout and other items are controlled through PCL® - Printer Control Language. Many applications build into their software the ability to send PCL commands to the printer.

Express does not use any PCL instructions. The program prints in whatever the current default Font or Layout is for the printer.  Express send the text plus line feeds to the Windows® print system.   Windows interacts with the printer driver supplied by the manufacturer for the specific printer you are using.  If you are experiencing problems with fonts or print quality, the problem is usually in the printer driver supplied by the manufacturer.

Some possible things to try are:

  • Reset the printer by turning it on and off. This usually reloads factory defaults.

  • Shut down and restart Windows.

  • Try setting up a printer using a Generic/Text Only printer driver.   (This is the solution that works most often.

  • Contact you printer vendor (or your system administrator) to make sure you have installed the most current driver version available for your printer.

Some printers allow changing of the default font through the control buttons on the printer. The user should consult the printer manual or the manufacturer for help.
