| Problem: |
The Express for Windows communications
procedure produces the following error
message:
The ultimate solution may require a combination of the following steps.
Make sure to know where you started from (settings-wise) and change just one
thing at a time until you find something that either fixes the problems or
helps. |
| Solution 1: |
|
Reset modem or PC and try again. |
| Solution 2: |
Make sure the modem profile being used is
correct for the modem in use. If unsure of the modem type, try :
Note: Express 3.00 has several profiles
that include "No EC" as part of their name. The profiles are
supposed to disable error correction. Try them. |
| Solution 3: |
| Try a different 800 #, such as 800-299-1412 or 888-224-0843. |
| Solution 4: |
Wrong Modem Driver Being Used:
|
| Solution 5: |
Baud Rate. Two suggestions:
|
| Solution 6: |
|
Make sure the modem profile in use has Flow
Control set to RTSCTS. If you set up a 9600 or 14.4 or 28.8 modem using Flow
Control setting of NONE you may get this error. Note: Make sure that the
modem profile includes the proper RTS/CTS Flow Control command in the
initialization string. Many Hayes compatibles use &K3 for this, but the
proper command can vary. Consult the modem manual to be sure. |
| Solution 7: |
Are there other programs open that may be
conflicting?
|
| Solution 8: |
|
Sometimes changing the Flow Control from
RTSCTS to NONE will help. This is especially true when downloads never go
above 0% before giving the "too many errors" message. |
| Solution 9: |
|
Lower the Advanced tab settings to 1 or
2. Try this as a last resort. Lowering the baud rate or changing to
800-299-1412 @2400 baud is a similar step that I would try before adjusting
these settings. |
| Solution 10: |
|
Does the PC have a turbo button? If so, turn
it OFF and try again. These are usually found on 386 and 486 SX
systems |
| Solution 11: |
|
There was a file in the \AMSEXPW\OUTBOUND
subdirectory that had a size of 0 . Delete the file and try again |
