Error 76 - "Path Not Found"

Error 76 - "Path Not Found"

Problem:

An Express for Windows™ user receives the message: Error 76 - Path Not Found while attempting to communicate.

A path that EXPRESS was looking for either did not exist or could not be created. This could be because a file or directory is missing.  It could also be that the AMSEXPW.INI file points to the wrong drive - due to the program being moved or, possibly, because of network drives being reconfigured.

Solution 1:
  • Check to see that all Express subdirectories are present.  For newer versions of Express, substitute \EXPRESSW for \AMSEXPW in the following:

    • \AMSEXPW

    • \AMSEXPW\INBOUND

    • \AMSEXPW\INBOUND\TMP

    • \AMSEXPW\OUTBOUND

    • \AMSEPXPW\TEMP

    • \AMSEXPW\USER

    • \AMSEXPW\DATA

Solution 2:

If all directories exist, and this is a network install, make sure that the user has full supervisory level or administrative RIGHTS to all Express subdirectories .

Solution 3:

Make sure that drive mappings have not been changed. For example, if Express was initially loaded to the F: drive and then the mapping was changed to G:, the Error 76 could occur because the AMSEXPW.INI file would still point to F:

  • Delete the C:\WINDOWS\AMSEXPW.INI file.

  • Rerun the Network Workstation Setup.

Solution 4:

If this is a network install, and only one or two users are experiencing problems:  Do the following  on the workstations that are experiencing the problems:

  • Delete or rename the C:\WINDOWS\AMSEXPW.INI file

  • Run the Network Workstation setup again.
