Error 3197 - "Data Has Changed"

Error 3197 - "Data Has Changed"

Problem:

The following error message is displayed while trying to enter requests, transmit, or other perform any other operation in Express for Windows™:

Error 3197 - "Data Has Changed"

Solution:

The error message indicates this is a networked installation of Express and that two users are trying to access the same data at the same time.

  • If this is a network installation, make sure everyone exits from Express ( get them to reboot, if possible, if they have been in Express ).

  • Have one user start Express again.

  • Run the Repair Database option.  Choose File then Repair Database.

  • Exit Express, then restart Express and try again.

If this is a standalone installation, the database is probably corrupted.

  • You can try repairing and compacting the database.

    • To repair choose File then Repair Database

    • To compact choose File then Compact Database

  • If the version is 3.00 or greater, you may try starting the program from the Start | Run option (or File | Run for Windows® 3.1) using the /Repair switch. For example:

    • X:\EXPRESSW\AMSEXPW.EXE /REPAIR   where X: is the drive containing Express.

  • If the above does not work, you can restore your own backup of the Express database (EXPRESS.MDB), or attempt to repair EXPRESS.MDB with Microsoft Access®, or delete and reinstall Express.
