Error 3052 - "Sharing Lock Count Exceeded"
|
|
Problem: |
|
This error occurs when the user's system is
being booted with SHARE.EXE installed. If the command used to start SHARE
does not specify a lock count of at least 500 and a files count of at least
5100, this error will occur. This error should occur only on
Windows® 3.1x.

|
Solution 1: |
|
Check to make sure that the command that
launches SHARE.EXE in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file has the correct parameters. The
suggested command to start SHARE.EXE is:
This command is added to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
-
Note that the LH is optional but
suggested. LH tells the system to load SHARE in upper memory, not
conventional memory.
-
Also, SHARE.EXE may be located in a directory,
other than \DOS. Make sure the path you specify is proper so that the
system can locate the copy of SHARE.EXE.
-
Make sure
that there is only one entry in the AUTOEXEC file that loads SHARE. We
have seen instances where SHARE is loaded twice in AUTOEXEC. If the
SHARE command with the proper parameters is loaded after another SHARE
command with lower settings, Express will fail to start.

Solution 2: |
|
Use VSHARE.386 instead. (This
is not required for Windows 95/98 or Windows NT® because Win95/98/NT does
this automatically.)
-
Modify the SYSTEM.INI file so that VSHARE is
loaded when Windows starts. Important!! -
Make a backup copy of the SYSTEM.INI file before attempting to edit it!!!
-
Type COPY SYSTEM.INI SYSTEM.IIX
.
-
If there are problems with the SYSTEM.INI
file after the system is rebooted, SYSTEM.IIX can be renamed to
SYSTEM.INI
-
Check the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
directory to see if the file VSHARE.386 is present. If it is, add the
following line to the [386ENH] section of the SYSTEM.INI
file:
-
If VSHARE.386
does not exist in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory,
there is a copy of the file in the \AMSEXPW (or \EXPRESSW) directory.
Copy that file to the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory and use the command
Device=VSHARE.386 in the SYSTEM.INI file. Or, you may
elect to leave the VSHARE.386 file in the \AMSEXPW (or \EXPRESSW)
directory and use the following command in the SYSTEM.INI file:
