Please note: The following are Case Studies. They are not meant to be the definitive methods for resolving this error. They simply detail the steps that resolved this error in the known cases. It is possible that the problem you are attempting to resolve is caused by circumstances different than those described below. This error is usually proceeded by another error. Error 19 - No Resume simply indicates that Express for Windows™ did not recover from that previous error. Attempt to recreate the steps that led up to
this error. |
| Case 1: |
|
The Error 19 - No Resume had actually been preceded by an Error 76 - Path Not Found. This indicated that either a file or a subdirectory needed by Express was missing or corrupt. In this case, troubleshooting was done to
determine the cause of the Error 76. |
| Case 2: |
|
The error had been preceded by a lockup of the system while the user was attempting to import requests into Express. Subsequent attempts to import the same requests would always produce an Error 19 - No Resume. Troubleshooting began by attempting to run Repair Database. (Select File then Repair Database) This resulted in an error that said the database was locked. Since the system was a standalone, no other users were in the database at the time. Rebooting did not change the symptoms. This pointed to the possibility that the EXPRESS.LDB file was either locked or corrupt. EXPRESS.LDB controls the access to the database file EXPRESS.MDB and keeps track of all open connections to the database. EXPRESS.LDB was renamed to LDB.BAK and Express for Windows™ was restarted. (Express will recreate the EXPRESS.LDB file if that file is missing at the time Express is launched.) This time an error was received that said Unable to Open Database. This was Express for Windows version 3.00, so we attempted to start Express by selecting Start, then Run, and typing in:
Since 3.00 creates a backup of the database called BACKUP.MDB each time it is closed, using the above command instructed Express to load the backup copy of EXPRESS.MDB. This resolved the problem. The initial system crash had damaged both the EXPRESS.MDB and EXPRESS.LDB files. Earlier versions of Express do not automatically
create a backup file. You would need to restore your own backup of the file
EXPRESS.MDB, or use Microsoft Access to attempt to repair the database, or
delete and reinstall Express for Windows. (See
Unable to
Open Database) |
