Express for Windows™ Error - "Setup Initialization Error - Error 112"

Problem:

The following error may occur when attempting to install Express for Windows version 2.30 (or later).

Setup Initialization Error

Setup is unable to decompress & copy all of the program files needed to proceed with installation. Contact your software vendor. Error 112.

Solution:

This error could be due to a problem with the system TEMP variable.  At a DOS prompt type:  SET | MORE.  The system environment variables will be displayed.

  • Make sure that the TEMP variable is set to a valid directory.

  • Make sure that drive where the TEMP directory is located has sufficient disk space.

  • If possible, delete the items in the TEMP directory. One customer reported that they had a large number of files in the TEMP directory and that, once those were deleted, the software installed without error.

  • The TEMP variable should be on a local drive. One customer who experienced this error had the TEMP directory on a network drive. Changing the TEMP directory to a local drive solved the problem.

Note: The TEMP variable is usually set via the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. However, it may also be set through system or user login scripts on Novell® networks.  Windows 95/98 will set its own TEMP variable is none is specified by the user.

After correcting the problem, restart Windows® and try the installation again.
