Installing  Express for Windows™  on a Peer-to-Peer Network

Installing  Express for Windows™  on a Peer-to-Peer Network

Instructions:
  • Designate one of your workstations as the server for Express for Windows. The hard disk location on the "server" to which Express is installed must be shared,  with full access granted to other users.

  • The installation must be done from one of the other network workstations to the designated Express for Windows server. (Treat the Express "server" as a dedicated file server for this part of the installation.) The workstation where the diskettes are loaded, and every other workstation that will access Express, must map a unique drive letter (such as G:) to the shared drive on the server.

  • During the installation of the Express diskettes, the user must choose "Network Server/Workstation" as the installation option.

  • Install the diskettes to the driver letter that was mapped in step 2. This copies the needed files to the server and sets up an Express icon on the workstation that the diskettes are installed from.

  • Once the Network server installation is complete, additional workstations can be set up to use Express for Windows by running the Network Workstation setup option from the mapped shared drive on the server. The path will be x:\EXPRESSW\SETUP\SETUP.EXE   where x: is the mapped shared drive.

  • To set up the server PC so that it can also run Express, run the Express installation on the server from x:\EXPRESSW\SETUP\SETUP.EXE ( where x: is the local drive on which the Express shared resource is located ) and choose the Network Workstation installation option.
