| Problem: |
This error could occur when installing Express for Windows version 2.30 (or greater).
A message box pops up that states "Upgrading Database"
and then the error message would appear. |
| Solution 1: |
The system may have two or more VBDB300.DLL files. The first one may be in any directory and the second in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM. To check for this, do the following:
| Solution 2: |
If Express still does not start after executing Solution 1, or if there was/were no extra VBDB300.DLL, check the date stamp on the VBDB300.DLL that resides in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory. If the date is prior to: 3/24/94, rename the file and reinstall Express. If the date of the file is 3/24/94, make sure that the size is 95200. If it is smaller than 95200, it is possible the file failed to expand properly when it was installed. Rename the file and reinstall Express. |
| Solution 3: |
VBDB300.DLL may be corrupt.
| Solution 4: |
If the error occurs at the end of the installation - during the Upgrading Database step - check the \EXPRESSW\DATA or \AMSEXPW\DATA directories to see if the EXPRESS.MDB and EXPRESS.LDB files exist. If those files do not exist, but there is a TEMP.MDB file, try renaming TEMP.MDB to EXPRESS.MDB. Also, rename the TEMP.LDB file to EXPRESS.LDB. Check the
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory to make sure that AMSEXPW.INI was created. If it
was, try to start Express. (You may have to create a shortcut to the program
if the Express icon was not created.) |
