Error 3343: "Unrecognized Database Format ....\EfB\Database\PLUS32.MDB".

Error 3343: "Unrecognized Database Format ....\EfB\Database\PLUS32.MDB".

Problem:
The following error message is displayed while attempting to launch Express for Browsers:

"Unrecognized Database Format.....\..\..PLUS32.MDB."

Microsoft® defines the cause of the problem in this way: "This is typically caused when the Jet database engine was improperly shut down during the process of writing to disk."  This is from their support document Q182867 - ACC: Jet Database Engine Error Messages Due to Corruption.

That most likely means that someone crashed or rebooted while saving information in Express - typically when entering requests or while communicating.  Could also occur if they turned off the workstation while Express for Browsers was backing up the database (when a user exits the program in V4.11 or later).

Solution:
Have all users exit from Express for Browsers and then try these steps - one at a time.  Please contact iiX Customer Support if you wish assistance in executing the following steps.

  1. Microsoft suggests trying to Compact the database.  To do this:
    • Open the Control Panel
    • Locate the icon for ODBC 32bit or ODBC Data Sources.  Double click that icon. (For Windows 2000 users, the Data Sources (ODBC) icon is found in Control Panel, then Administrative Tools.)
    • The ODBC Data Source Administrator window opens.
    • On the User DSN tab, in the User Data Sources list box,   highlight Express PLUS 32.
    • Click on the Configure button.
    • Select Compact button on the next screen.
      • Select the name of the database to Compact From (use PLUS32.MDB)
      • Select the name of the database to Compact To (use PLUS32.MDB)
      • If successful, a message will display saying it was compacted successfully
    • If the Compact fails, proceed to the next step.
  2. If the version of Express for Browsers is 4.11 or greater
    • Rename PLUS32.MDB to PLUS32.XXX
    • Then, copy PLUS32BK.MDB to PLUS32.MDB.
    • Try Express for Browsers again. If successful, stop here.
    • If Express for Browsers still does not open, you will have to reinstall Express for Browsers.
    • Or, if your version of Express for Browsers is 4.10 or earlier, you will have to reinstall Express for Browsers.
  3. Reinstall Express for Browsers
    • Rename the old database from PLUS32.MDB to PLUS32.OLD
    • Reinstall the Express for Browsers CD.
