Error 3051: "The Microsoft Jet Database Engine Cannot Open the File 'x:/...../database/PLUS32.MDB'...


Error 3051: "The Microsoft Jet Database Engine Cannot Open the File 'x:/...../database/PLUS32.MDB'. 
It is already Opened Exclusively by Another User .... "
 

Problem:
The following error message is displayed while using Express for Browsers:
 

"Error 3051:  Description: The Microsoft Jet Database Engine cannot open the file 'x:\.........plus32.mdb.'  It is already open exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view it's data."

 
Solution:
Have all users exit from Express for Browsers and then try these steps - one at a time:

  1. Check the \DATABASE directory to see if there are any files with the extension .LDB.  If so, delete them and try Express for Browsers again.
  2. Check for a file called PLUS32C.MDB.  If it exists, delete it and try Express for Browsers again.
  3. Rename PLUS32.MDB to something else and then rename PLUS32BK.MDB to PLUS32.MDB. Try Express for Browsers again.
  4. Search the C: drive for a file SYSTEM.MDB.  If it exists, rename it temporarily - then reboot - and try EfB again.  (Note: SYSTEM.MDB is a file that can be used by a system administrator to assign permissions to users of Microsoft Access databases.)
